It’s finally here. Today is the day. At 1.05pm I begin the first part of a rather long journey which will eventually see me land in stunning Argentina 25 minutes before I’ve actually left New Zealand. (I love that part!)
For the next 7 weeks I will hopefully blogging as much as I can over at To Argentina and Beyond.
Please join me as I begin this wonderful opportunity from the New Zealand Ministry of Education’s Language Immersion Awards and AFS to immerse myself in the language and culture of my host country Argentina. Whilst I haven’t “officially” heard, I believe that I will be living in Paranà .
This sounds like a great opportunity! 7 weeks in Argentina! How long have you been studying/practicing Spanish? Have you ever been abroad where you spoke Spanish before? I have heard the Spanish accent in Spain, but I would love to hear your opinion of the Spanish accent in Argentina! I got the pleasure of hearing the Andalusian dialect, while in Malaga. I do like how they drop the “d” from words. Even if at first it was a little confusing to hear, for example “pescado” turned into pescao”. It did somehow make sense to me, as living in Boston I don’t normally hear people pronounce their “r” either- In fact I quite normally get asked to say park the car in Harvard Yard (pahk the cah in havad yahd). I am really interested in accents of the same language, especially in learning a language. I think being able to pick up on differences in the way various regions speak shows me that I can understand the language, and that is a big accomplishment for me! I like being able to speak another language in that country, it makes all of the difference. You get to see and experience the culture up close, and understand it a lot better too! The language and culture in Argentina will be so beautiful! Good luck!
